The Traditional Wood Carving and Rose Painting were continued in rural areas until the nineteenth century for quite some time. The advent of national independence in one thousand eight hundred and fourteen year seemed to have indicated a large number of new opportunities for crafts makers. However, the economic depression of subsequent decades made a serious impediment to their development. At half of the ninteenth century, Norwegian arts and crafts are still strongly influenced by the ancient tradition. But the new technologies are also beginning to enter the production of crafts. The Hadeland Glassworks factory founded in one thousand eight hundred and fifty two year began to produce more refined glass productions, often using high standards of foreign technology. Agrson Feons Industry Company introduced the UK’s stone processing technology. In one thousand eight hundred and eighty seven years, Park Falls Glen Ceramics Factory was opened.
Renewed interest of Norwegian crafts in Jugend Art period led the reemergence of the drake and dragon head pattern in ancient Viking period. Since then, this pattern has been integrated into many craft forms, attracted wide international interest and almost become a national symbol.
In thirty years of twenty century, the functionalist design had a significant impact on Scandinavian crafts production. Until fifty years, a unique, more gentle and humane “Scandinavian model” came into being.
The development of seventy years made arts and crafts industry undergo a revolution. Textiles, glass, ceramics and other handicrafts are fully accepted as a visual art, but the actual means of production were no longer considered important. In one thousand nine hundred and seventy four year, the craftsmen and artisans through their crafts Norwegian Artists Association finally won considerations of “national income guarantee scheme” to gain widespread acceptance of Norwegian art. During the one thousand nine hundred and eighty years, as the importance industrial design of growing, more and more craftsmen obtained the commission of decorating public places and buildings.
